New poem, "The Blessed Mother"

"The Blessed Mother"

This beautiful lady,
This virgin so true,
She wants to be,
A mother to you.

The angel Gabriel addressed her,
Full of grace.
Mary said, "Yes Lord!"
And took her place.

This mortal teenager was given,
A monumental task.
To bear the Messiah.
How is this possible you ask?

It is a mystery,
Christ the incarnate Deity.
He took on human flesh,
For the sake of you and me.

Jesus loves His mother,
A love so pure and deep.
She never abandoned Him,
At Calvary she did weep.

So run to Mary,
And tell her your plea.
She will ask Jesus,
And you will get victory!

new poem, "The Gospel"

"The Gospel"

Christ first appeared
On a cold wintry night

Snow was gently falling
A lone candle gave light

Born to the blessed Virgin Mary
Sweet baby Jesus, the incarnate deity

Emmanuel was now before us
Oh what a heavenly sight to see

Christ was now a man
He began His earthly ministry

The crippled were healed
The blind could now see

Christ is the Logos
The living Word

So open your ears
Let the Lord be heard

According to the Law
We are dead in our sin

A perfect sacrifice is needed
A propitiation

Jesus lived with His 12 Apostles
He taught them all without exception

But one would betray Him
This man of perdition

In the Garden of Gethesemane Jesus prayed
And asked if He could forgo this bitter pill

Our precious Lord sweat blood
And He accepted the Father's will

Christ was taken before the religious authorities
They cruelly mocked Him

The Romans brutally scourged and beat Jesus
His life flickered dim

Oh how our Lord suffered
He endured so much pain

Our very sins caused this misery
The wicked heart profane

The King of Kings was crucified
Upon this tree He hung

He was slowly suffocating
Oh His burning lung

The Apostle John and the Blessed Mother
Saw the God Man in agony

Jesus cried out, "It is finished!"
His spirit did flee

He was buried in a tomb
The Romans guarded it well

Christ visited Abraham's Bosom
He released the souls from Hell

This perfect Lamb of God
Died in our place

He took on sin
Jesus finished the race

Now on the 3rd day
Something happened most miraculous

It can hardly be reckoned
This event so stupendous

Our Lord Jesus was resurrected
His body glorified and risen

Death could not hold Him
The Son of God was free from prison

Christ conquered sin
Death and Satan too

His sacrifice has made salvation possible
For me and you

So place your faith in Jesus
Call upon His blessed Name

Your life will be transformed
You'll never be the same

By God's grace we are saved
Through faith received

We are regenerated
By the faith of a mustard seed

To be born again
Is the greatest miracle of all time

You will receive the Holy Spirit
Now walk in truth sublime

So praise Him on the earth
And in the Heavens above

Let us proclaim the Good News
And demonstrate Christ's love

new poem

"afternoon musings"

Water gushes across the window pane
Oh what a torrential rain

The cool Spring air
So refreshing and fair

The fierce wind gusts and blows
Following a path only God knows

I thought of the rain which fell
After Christ's death knell

His precious blood washed away down the hill
All in accordance with the Father's will

A shameless culture

It was not that long ago that for a child to be born out of wedlock was a deeply shameful thing. That is no longer the case. Now as sexual immorality is rampant we see many children born as bastards out of wedlock. Culturally there is no longer any stigma or shame associated with these births. Even many Christians don't consider it to be a big deal. As a result we have millions of children raised in homes with no father present. This site lists some of the problems associated with fatherless homes. As this article says, "Children of unmarried mothers of any race are more likely to perform poorly in school, go to prison, use drugs, be poor as adults, and have their own children out of wedlock."

The black and hispanic communities have the highest rates of children born out of wedlock. A whopping 72% for blacks and 53% of hispanics. The rate for whites is 29%, but in 1965 the rate for whites was only 3%! So in just a few generations we have seen a dramatic increase in these types of births.

Although the welfare state provides an incentive for women to stay single and have children out of wedlock, the root cause of this problem is not economic, it is not racism or poverty. The real issue is morality. We live in a nation that has in numerous ways turned its back on God. As I said sexual immorality is now epidemic. Even many Christians fornicate. According to the Guttmacher Institute a staggering 61% of 18-year-olds and 71% of 19-year-olds report having had sex. Yet we know that most people do not marry in the US until there mid 20s. So that means that the vast majority of our youth are fornicators. But it's even worse than that. Because according to the Pew forum 78.4% of Americans identify themselves as Christians. So from this we know that the vast majority of Christian youth in America are fornicators! If people were practicing abstinence before marriage and fidelity within marriage we would not see this epidemic of children born out of wedlock, we would not see the epidemic of sexually transmitted diseases and we would not see so much abortion.

Mental Illness - mind or body problem?

Here is a professor at a local seminary who is director of their biblical counseling institute. He questions the commonly held view of mental illness as an organic disease and views it as a spiritual matter. His view is that the mind is not part of the body. He says,"Can someone get mentally ill? No. He can be spiritually sinful, physically sick, but the mind cannot get sick and therefore we don't need to cure minds."

It's a shame such views are being taught at seminary! No wonder so many pastors and Christians view mental illness as merely a manifestation of sin. This serves to stigmatize those suffering from mental illness and puts all of the blame on the one suffering which only makes them feel worse! Ugh this gets me angry!
I think very few mental illnesses are caused by sin. Maybe some mild ones, but people suffering with schizophrenia, major depression, bipolar disorder, those are physical organic diseases and have NOTHING to do with sin! And what really irks me is that this guy is the DIRECTOR of the whole biblical counseling institute so he is probably training tons of people who become counselors at their churches! The body and mind are interlinked, but I don't agree with the notion that most mental illness is just a result of sin! That is insane to think that in my view. I agree a holistic approach has merit, and some people with low grade relatively minor mental illness can benefit much from Biblical counseling, but this is not, in my view, the case so much with severe mental illness. If someone gets diabetes or polio do we suddenly start questioning whether it was from sin? Of course not, and we shouldn't question organic mental illness either! The amount of damage being done to Christians with mental illness is mind boggling! And they are being stigmatized and taught that they are at fault for their own suffering! It's sadistic and very wrong. I'd even go so far as to say such teaching is itself sinful. Further, so many suffer needlessly in the Church because they were taught they don't need medication just Biblical counseling, or even worse some are taught that psychiatric medication is itself of the Devil!

Cancer center bans Christian symbols!

These types of stories really make my blood boil. The Medical University of South Carolina Hollings Cancer Center has banned all religious symbols on its premises for this Christmas season. They did it so as not to "offend anyone"! Spokeswoman for the Hollings Cancer Center, Vicky Agnew said that decorations will be, "more secular and respectful to all beliefs." Agnew said, "We don't want to offend a volunteer with good intentions, but we need to think of the bigger picture. People who are Muslim or Jewish or have no religious beliefs come here for treatment."  This action is, "not meant to be cold," she said.

This is, sadly, yet another instance of arrogance, fundamental misunderstanding of our Constitution and an outright cowardice! Keep in mind this cancer center is where sick people are recuperating from serious illnesses and it has been proven in peer reviewed research that prayer and ones Christian faith does have a positive impact on patient recovery! If anyplace this is where such vital symbols of faith, encouragement and hope are needed. Our Constitution does not establish an absolute divorce of religious content from the public arena. The so-called separation of church and state clause was instituted to protect people of faith from the abuses of government - something which many of our forefathers had experienced in Europe.

The rights of the many are abrogated and sacrificed on the expedient altar of political correctness! So the fear of a hardhearted atheist or member of some other faith was so compelling that they were forced to take such a Draconian action? I think not. There has been a concerted effort by liberals, spearheaded by groups like the ACLU, for decades to systematically remove all evidence of our Judeo-Christian heritage from *any* public space. This attack has been concentrated mainly on court houses, public primary schools, hospitals, universities, state parks, and businesses. They've even gone after private property owners having a large cross on display. We must fight back against this tyranny. For too long people of faith and freedom lovers have sat back and allowed this evil to foster. Now is the time for action! Please take time to contact the Hollings Cancer Center and let them know that you are angered by their decision and want them to reverse it. Remember: Jesus is the Reason for the Christmas season!

Here is some helpful contact information I collected. Make your voice heard today!

China's Heart

steaming hotpot
perfumes the air
gleaming summer's sun

countryside life
earthy and noble
unchanged by time

daily rhythms
a people linked
a proud culture

kids play
innocence of youth
their parents dream

new society
globalized and homogenized
what is lost?

generations leap
the Cultural Revolution
Facebook and Twitter

fish swim
the Yangtze river
strong and dynamic

return youth
to the fields
of amber wheat

find joy
in simple pleasures
laughter and song

a path
walked for millennia
follow it well

God's creation
the beauty unfolds
let minds behold

journeyed Apostle Paul
across China's soil

preaching life

a struggle
modernism and materialism
twin evils abound

fear not

Stop Killing Elephants

Bob Parsons - elephant murderer

PETA has discovered that recently on a trip to Zimbabwe GoDaddy.com CEO Bob Parsons killed an elephant. This was done for pure sport! What an arrogant and despicable man. Elephants are a threatened species. His excuse that this was done to protect the villagers is absurd. Hey Bob instead of stroking your pathetic ego and murdering a majestic, intelligent, gorgeous African bull elephant in cold blood with your high powered rifle you could have taken some of your vast personal fortune, estimated at $200 million USD by celebritynetworth.com, and built a fence around the village or found another solution to the alleged problem the elephants were causing. Not to mention the fact that this is the elephants natural habitat - their home. The truth is that Bob Parsons wanted to satisfy his blood lust by killing a defenseless creature that was unable to fight back against his lethal weapon. He is a very insecure man with an utterly cold heart. You are in spiritual darkness Bob Parsons! Repent of your great evil, turn to Christ and renounce your Satanic ways. Instead of using his wealth to do good he is hunting down innocent elephants!

This sicko Parsons has even posted a boastful video on Video.me (GoDaddy.com's own video sharing site) entitled, "Hunting Problem Elephant - My 2011 Vacation" and this was posted in the "Adventure" video category! Murdering an innocent animal is your idea of adventure Bob? He posted this description of the video:

"Each year I go to Zimbabwe and hunt problem elephant. It's one of the most beneficial and rewarding things I do. This video shows a typical day of this year's trip. I just returned home today March 14, 2011."

Wow so he feels compelled to do this every year?! Parsons is a very disturbed man. According to the video this is the second consecutive year he's done this.

Here is the video, but be warned this is very brutal and graphic:

Some stills from the disgusting video:

Parsons is so eager to kill!
He wants to make sure the elephant is dead!
Tries to minimize his crime by saying only one was hurt.
Revolting! Look at his smug expression!!!

Note that in the photo of Parsons standing over the dead elephant he actually has a smile on his face! How sadistic. If you look closely you can see a stream of tears coming from the right eye of the elephant. :( If Parsons prime motive was helping these poor villagers he could have done so without murdering this elephant. Instead of making water wells, providing permanent shelter, donating seed for crops, making a seed barn, giving the kids OLPC computers, giving out loans to help the people start their own businesses, building and staffing a hospital or any other of numerous ways of helping he chose to instead kill a defenseless animal! So his flimsy justification for this barbaric act is pure rubbish.

"A righteous man cares for the needs of his animal, but the kindest acts of the wicked are cruel."
- Proverbs 12:10

"For that which befalleth the sons of men befalleth beasts; even one thing befalleth them: as the one dieth, so dieth the other; yea, they have all one breath; so that a man hath no preeminence above a beast: for all [is] vanity." - Ecclesiastes 3:19

"If you have men who will exclude any of God's creatures from the shelter of compassion and pity, you will have men who will deal likewise with their fellow men." - St. Francis of Assisi

Elephants have an extremely close family unit. Numerous elephants will deeply mourn the murder of this beloved family member. Elephants would never abuse their children as human parents have done so many times. An elephant mother would not hesitate to sacrifice her own life to save her children. I recall watching a news report about a case in India where a baby elephant was killed by a train. So profound was her loss that the next day at the same exact time when the train was due to pass by the mother of the slain child rushed forward and derailed the train, she sacrificed her own life to get justice for her dear baby!

If you want to support a great organization and find the most up to date research on elephants and their conservation go visit the Save The Elephants site here: http://www.savetheelephants.org/

Decline of the West

In Japan you still have a fairly intact family unit, schools are much stricter than in the West, children are taught to follow the law and be good citizens. Hedonistic parents in the West raise their spoiled brats to be narcissistic self-absorbed twats who just look to satiate their base carnal desires; if anyone gets in their way they just step over them. The feminist movement and so-called sexual revolution has destroyed the family unit. In the black community 90% of kids are born bastards and grow up with no father present. Things aren't much better in the white or hispanic communities. I regularly read in the British broadsheets of the rise of hooliganism and thuggery, school kids slashing each other with knives, and the law is lax and lets them off the hook. Sexual morality is at an abysmal level in the West too. Half the population is either stoned on drugs or in a drunken stupor. Also a fundamental, a very non-PC, factor is people turning away from God. For those bashing America: yes we have our faults, as does any country, but at least we still have a majority Christian nation and haven't bowed down to the tyranny of the Islamists and welcomed the Trojan Horse into our own shores as misguided liberal Britain and much of Europe has done. It's too late for you now, but we still have a chance. Enjoy the Sharia law which will be coming in the next decades!

Fidei / Faith

Real faith is a dynamic relationship with Christ and it affects all aspects of your life and being. So I pray you dear reader come to saving faith in Christ if you aren't already saved. Religion and all works of man are dead and cannot save anyone. Only by being born again can you enter the Kingdom of Heaven. We are saved by God's grace through faith in Christ. Christ was born of the virgin Mary the God-Man (fully divine and fully human), He lived and died on the Cross at Calvary so that our sins may be washed away, an atonement for our evil. Jesus rose on the 3rd day and ascended unto Heaven. He is seated at the right hand of God the Father and will return to Earth one day to judge the living and the dead. COME TO FAITH NOW! Confess your sins, ask Jesus to forgive you and to be your personal Lord and Saviour and He will send His Holy Ghost to live in your heart and be your helper. Trust now in the Lord of Lords and King of Kings! If you've done this you are now a new creation and have gained eternal life. Praise God!

The Mission

This film is a true masterpiece. I easily place it within my top 100 films of all time. The story is very human, and while some reviewers think this picture is a critique of faith, particularly the Catholic Church, I do not agree. Yes colonialism had its problems and was a flawed vehicle for the Gospel, but the Indians came to beautiful faith genuinely. Also the priests had an abiding love for these Indians as people, not as mere numbers to add to their scrolls. Real faith is not something which can be forced. And in the end of the movie the Indians and priests give one of the most compelling and loving scenes of martyrdom I have ever witnessed on film. Yes it is sad how they are cut down, but they gain far more than they lose, and in doing so show that true faith cannot be destroyed. I should state that I'm a Protestant, but I have known priests, and the character Jeremy Irons plays reminds me of several dear priests I've encountered. DeNiro gave probably the best performance of his career in this film, the only other contender would be "Deer Hunter". The scene when they reach the top of the mountain and the Indian cuts off the dead weight of the armor (symbolic of the guilt and anguish he'd be carrying over his brother's death) and DeNiro breaks down and expresses sorrow and finally joy it is truly sublime! Ennio Morricone's music beautifully complements the film (both in pacing and detail) and shows his preeminence amongst film composers! I should also comment on the film's lush cinematography. No wonder it won an Oscar for it. You are transported into the heart of the jungle. I recommend this film in the strongest possible terms. Please see it and you will not regret the time spent!

I'm a teetotaler!

No thanks! I don't like the bitter taste of alcohol. And remember, if a Christian imbibes it must be only if the following two conditions hold:

  1. One drinks in moderation (never drunk).
  2. You don't drink around a weaker brother if it will cause him to stumble.

Good News

"Good News"

In the Garden
Man did Fall

Lost to Sin
Satan cast a black pall

Separated from God
So holy and righteous

Our folly of pride
Desiring and covetous

The seduction of knowledge
And self-sovereignty

Because of this
We did flee

Earth twas covered
In gloom and despair

Brother killed brother
Without a care

Mercy was shown
A covenant made

Keeping the law
Observances were paid

Man was still far
From intimacy once known

When we talked with God
In Paradise alone

Lost sheep all
Empty and incomplete

Scripture foretold
The Messiah we could meet

He came because of love
On a cold autumn night

Straw for bedding
As a star kept light

This was the One
Who would set us free

The Son of God
Incarnate deity

Christ alone could do
What we could not

To pay the heavy price
Which sin hath wrought

There is a balance
Which comes due

For every sin
And the goodness we eschew

Filthy are we
In God's holy sight

But Jesus would die
To make things right

Tortured, mocked, falsely judged
The God-Man overcame all

We each contributed
Because of the Fall

Sentenced to death
To hang on a Cross

How could this be
Such a loss

Christ would endure all
He knew this would be

Suffering this pain
For our wretched iniquity

At Calvary
Hung our dear Lord

This battle not won
By might or sword

His life so precious
And free of all sin

A ransom for us
A propitiation

"It is finished!"
Jesus said

And gave up His Spirit
The King of Kings dead

The sky darkened
Storms began to rage

But thanks to grace
Man escaped his dank cage

For on the third day
As Christ laid in rest

Our victory was already won
He passed every test

The grave could not hold
Our Savior for long

He was resurrected
As angels made song

A transcendent event
A statement for all time

It cannot be fathomed
By reason or rhyme

This miracle happened
And Christ was reborn

Look at His head
The marks of the thorn

How glorious this day
It is not a dream

Our dear Jesus lives
And reigns supreme

He defeated Death
And sin for every age

Our name can be written
In that eternal page

This gift of salvation
Is open to all

Who reach out in faith
And answer the call

No longer must we fear
Not trapped in time-space

If only we submit
And accept grace

Jesus loves you
And knocks on your door

Answer it now
Whether rich or poor

Intellect cannot save us
Nor doing a good deed

But mountains can be moved
With a faith seed

Confess Christ as Lord
Cast out doubt and fear

This greatest of miracles
Draws near

In Him place your trust
Believe with all heart

He shall never forsake you
Nor depart

Receive the Holy Ghost
A comforter for all time

You are now born again
A new life sublime

Tell this Good News
To friend and foe

Cherish it
And let the Gospel grow

faith and reason

Posted a comment on Darlene Egelhoff's blog

Wonderful blog post Darlene! I studied physics at Carnegie Mellon University (before my mental illness struck) and I *love* science. The great lie of the so-called New Atheists (people like the insufferably arrogant and condescending Richard Dawkins!) is that one must reject theism to be accepted as a rational thinker, to be a scientist. This is a ridiculous false dichotomy and it’s so sad so many young students are being indoctrinated into a binary view of epistemology where one must either reject reason and the modern world or embrace theism. There is nothing new under the sun, as Scripture says, and none of these “new” arguments are new at all. We Christians can use science and engage in scientific research without compromising our faith. As you echoed God gave us a mind to explore, to question, to ponder! Praise God. I personally do not see enough evidence for macro evolution, but as you said even if that is true it should not bother one who has built their faith on the firm bedrock of faith in Christ the King of Kings and Lord of Lords! All of creation testifies to the handiwork of the Creator and I’ve truly seen that manifested in my intellectual inquiries into the natural world. Let us not shrink back into the corner in the realm of public discourse, whether it be a Sunday school class, a university classroom or a discussion group with our closest friends, and be afraid to boldly proclaim that we are thinking Christians! Virtually all of Western science has been laid down by people who expressed Judeo-Christian faith. Let us remind students that perhaps the greatest intellect in history, Isaac Newton, was a fervent follow of our Lord Jesus Christ!

The lie of materialism

I grew up poor but we were very happy so I never made a false link between money and happiness as, unfortunately, so many seem to do now. I never wanted to be rich, but as a kid there were certain things I thought it would be cool or fun to hav.e someday. The older I get the more I realize money and material possessions matter so little in the spiritual world which is the truest reality. That is why it irks me when I see such a huge emphasis on material status as a marriage qualifier (for the husband). There is a huge gulf between what we truly need and what we want. Our culture inundates us constantly with a message of materialism and compels us to embrace a hyper-consumerist lifestyle if we wish to be happy. And on the radio I hear those nauseating commercials that implicitly link the size of a diamond and a man's degree of love for a woman. What rubbish. There is no real difference between rates of divorce for Christians in America versus non-Christians (they may even be higher for the latter). Christ calls us to be salt and light unto the earth. Our lives should stand as an example which will point others to the gospel. People here seem to go crazy for weddings and spend thousands, if not tens of thousands, of dollar, yet 54% of them will be divorced! It's sheer madness. I'm glad computers and iPods and cellphones were not readily available when I was a kid. I have many happy childhood memories of playing outside. As kids we couldn't wait to get outside, in the summer we'd spend literally the entire day outside playing games, sports, socializing. Now I see so many kids who lock themselves away in their own little social webs with the internet, cellphones, video games. I think this is very unhealthy. I bet most boys would much rather have their father spend more time with them versus buying a gadget to occupy their time when they look back on their life. Thank God for godly parents!

False prophets in modern American Christianity

I just read an alarming article by Russell D. Moore which is an absolute must read for all Christians in America, "God, the Gospel, and Glenn Beck".

An excerpt:
"Mormonism and Mammonism are contrary to the gospel of Jesus Christ. They offer another Lord Jesus than the One offered in the Scriptures and Christian tradition, and another way to approach him. An embrace of these tragic new vehicles for the old Gnostic heresy is unloving to our Mormon friends and secularist neighbors, and to the rest of the watching world. Any “revival” that is possible without the Lord Jesus Christ is a “revival” of a different kind of spirit than the Spirit of Christ (1 Jn. 4:1-3)."

AMEN x INFINITY!! Yes, it is literally disgusting to watch this spectacle unfold. American "Christians" lap up the materialistic populism at the false prophet Beck's feet. Real, Biblical and effectual, revival means turning away from ALL sins, not just the ones that are popular in our profane and hedonistic culture. Beck is deceived, he does not follow the Jesus Christ of Scripture, the Word incarnate. Pray for the charlatan Beck, stop supporting his shameful ego trips and follow the Lord Jesus Christ!

The self-aggrandizing fame hungry buffoon Glenn Beck.

Remember: "Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves." - Matt. 7:15
